Akhilesh Yadav introduces blue dress code for Samajwadi Party student wing

Ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has introduced a strategic shift in the party’s visual identity. The party’s student wing, the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, has adopted a new dress code consisting of blue T-shirts and jeans, moving away from the traditional red color associated with socialist struggle.

Yadav stated that the change reflects the evolving mindset of the new generation and aligns with the party’s ‘PDA’ movement. He noted that uniforms promote equality by eliminating distinctions based on attire, thereby strengthening socialist principles.

Political analysts suggest the adoption of blue—a color traditionally associated with Dalit politics and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)—is a calculated move to appeal to the Dalit vote bank, which constitutes approximately 21 percent of the Uttar Pradesh electorate. The new T-shirts also feature an image of B.R. Ambedkar alongside the party’s bicycle symbol.
