Akhilesh Yadav to meet Azam Khan in Rampur Jail on October 22

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav is scheduled to meet senior party leader Azam Khan at Rampur Jail on October 22. The meeting, which has been allotted a duration of approximately 45 minutes, is viewed as politically significant ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

This visit follows a recent meeting between Akhilesh Yadav and Azam Khan’s wife, Tanzim Fatima, which she described as a purely personal and social visit without political agendas. The meeting comes amid increasing legal challenges for Azam Khan. Rampur police have registered a new FIR against Khan, the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust, and others following a complaint from the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The investigation concerns alleged financial irregularities and the misuse of government funds related to the construction of Jauhar University. The ED highlighted a discrepancy of approximately 416.14 crore rupees between the reported construction costs and the capital expenditure declared in the trust’s income tax returns. The allegations include criminal conspiracy, breach of trust, and fraud.
