Akhtaruzzaman released from prison following High Court bail

Retired Major and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman Ranjan was released from Keraniganj Central Jail on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM. His release follows an interim bail granted by the High Court last Sunday.

Akhtaruzzaman was arrested by the Detective Branch on October 2 following an incident at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. He was accused of causing disorder, obstructing government work, and threatening airport officials during a dispute regarding the delayed supply of Zamzam water to Umrah pilgrims.

The state attempted to appeal the bail order in the Chamber Court, but the court issued a “no order” on Monday, allowing the High Court's bail decision to stand. He was met by family members and party activists upon his release.
