Akihiro Miwa tribute special to air on TV Tokyo

TV Tokyo will broadcast a special tribute program titled ‘16 Years of Gratitude... Tribute: Arienhen Akihiro Miwa SP’ on August 18. The program honors Akihiro Miwa, the singer, actor, and director who served as the MC for the show ‘Arienhen Sekai’ for 16 years following its move to golden time in 2010, before passing away in June at the age of 91.

The special will feature rare archival footage, including a program from 54 years ago documenting Miwa’s name change from Akihiro Maruyama to Akihiro Miwa, and a performance of ‘Yoitomake no Uta’ from 41 years ago. It will also showcase a portrait of Miwa from when they were 21 years old, which appeared on ‘Koun! Nandemo Kanteidan’.

Members of the group SUPER EIGHT—Shingo Murakami, Ryuhei Maruyama, and Shota Yasuda—will appear in the studio alongside Tetsuya Miyazaki to share personal anecdotes and moving stories about the impact Miwa had on their lives. Producer Shunji Fukumoto described the program as a ‘one-of-a-kind tribute variety show’ that balances humor with profound messages rather than being a purely somber memorial.
