Akio Toyoda inducted into Automotive Hall of Fame

Toyota Motor Corp chairman Akio Toyoda was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Detroit on September 23, 2026. Toyoda is the fourth member of his family to receive this honor, joining his grandfather Kiichiro Toyoda, his father Shoichiro Toyoda, and his grandfather's cousin Eiji Toyoda.

In his acceptance speech, Toyoda addressed an audience of over 700 industry professionals, urging automakers to collaborate rather than compete. He stated that the honor belonged to his partners, employees, and customers, and called for the industry to unite strengths to overcome challenges.

The induction recognizes Toyoda’s leadership since becoming president of Toyota in 2009, a period during which he focused on strengthening quality controls and rebuilding brand trust. He also emphasized the role of motorsports as a proving ground for vehicle and personnel development. He was inducted alongside motorsports engineer Giampaolo Dallara.
