Akira Nishitani proposes rebalancing Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo

Akira Nishitani, a veteran designer of the Street Fighter and Final Fight series, has expressed interest in rebalancing Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo via a post on X. Despite the game being released 32 years ago in 1994, Nishitani suggested that he would like to attempt a balance adjustment if given the opportunity, jokingly apologizing in advance if the changes result in a “festival of nerfs.”

While Capcom has released various retro collections and updated versions like the 2008 HD Remix and the 2017 Ultimate versions, a complete rebalancing of the original title remains speculative. The proposal has met with caution from members of the fighting game community. Historian and commentator James Chen noted that such changes could be “dangerous” because many players deeply value the game in its current state, suggesting that theoretically sound changes might negatively impact the actual gameplay experience.
