Akira anime returns to theaters with 4K remaster

The landmark 1988 cyberpunk anime ‘Akira’, directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, is returning to theaters in remastered 4K formats.

In Brazil, the film is being distributed by Sato Company, marking its return to screens 35 years after its initial local debut. The re-release includes both dubbed and subtitled versions, allowing a new generation to experience the detailed animation of Neo-Tokyo.

In Canada, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures are bringing the film back to theaters this September, including a debut screening in IMAX. The Canadian run will feature the original Japanese audio with English subtitles.
