Akira Toriyama posthumously inducted into Eisner Hall of Fame

Japanese mangaka Akira Toriyama, creator of the Dragon Ball and Dr. Slump series, was posthumously honored by induction into the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards Hall of Fame. The announcement was made during the San Diego Comic‑Con on 24 July 2026, together with 22 other inductees for the 2026 class. Toriyama was selected by a vote of industry professionals, joining fellow inductees Colleen Doran, Jeff Smith and Chris Ware, while 19 additional names had been chosen earlier by the jury panel. The Eisner Hall of Fame, often called the "Oscars of comics," recognizes creators whose work has had a lasting impact on the medium. Toriyama, who passed away in March 2024, is now listed alongside other prominent figures in comic history.
