Akita Inu interaction event held in Daisen City
An interaction event for the Akita Inu was held at the Prefectural Agricultural Science Museum in Daisen City, Akita Prefecture. Organized by the Kenan branch of the Akita Inu Preservation Society, the event allowed families to interact with approximately ten Akita dogs featuring red, brindle, and white coat colors.
In related cultural developments, a new comprehensive book titled ‘Akita Inu 資料集’ (Akita Inu Collection) by Yuri Funakoshi is scheduled for release on September 7, 2026. The book documents the 400-year history of the breed, which is a Japanese national natural monument. It covers the breed's evolution from Matagi hunting dogs to its near-extinction during wartime and its subsequent preservation. The work includes historical records, interviews, and details regarding influential bloodlines such as ‘Goromaru-go’.
