Akita Prefecture announces plan to transition middle school club activities to community-based models
The Akita Prefectural Board of Education has released a promotion plan regarding the regionalization of middle school club activities. Following national guidelines, the board aims to transition club activities on weekends to private clubs and community organizations at all public middle schools by the end of fiscal year 2031.
For weekday activities, the plan states that efforts to implement regional expansion and similar initiatives will begin by the same deadline. The strategy involves moving away from teacher-led instruction toward a model supported by club activity instructors and diverse operating entities to manage community-based club activities.
