Akiva Goldsman provides update on ‘I Am Legend 2’ development

Writer and producer Akiva Goldsman has provided an update on the development of a sequel to the 2007 film ‘I Am Legend’. While the project has faced difficulties, Goldsman stated that he is continuing to work toward getting the film made, noting that he has encountered a series of obstacles but refuses to be defeated by them.

The proposed sequel is expected to feature Will Smith and Michael B. Jordan, with both actors also serving as producers. The film is intended to follow the alternate ending seen in the original movie's home video release, in which Smith’s character, Robert Neville, survives.

Earlier reports indicated that Steven Caple Jr. was set to direct the project at Warner Bros. Pictures. Goldsman also commented on the creative direction regarding the original film's canine character, suggesting that the sequel would avoid killing another dog to prevent audience backlash.
