Akkaya Supermarket added to hygiene violation list in Pforzheim

The Akkaya Supermarket in Pforzheim has been added to the official list of businesses with significant hygiene violations, commonly referred to as the ‘Ekelliste’. Following inspections by the Karlsruhe food control authorities, several serious issues were identified at the Pfälzer Straße location.

Inspectors reported a severe fly infestation in the meat department with no active control measures in place. Additionally, temperature violations were noted: cheese was stored at 11.5 degrees Celsius and raw meat and sausages were kept at temperatures up to 13 degrees Celsius. The supermarket was also found to be selling various food items past their expiration dates without proper labeling.

Authorities clarified that not all hygiene violations are made public. To be included on the ‘Ekelliste’, a violation must involve a direct link to food safety, be more than a minor or one-time occurrence, and be subject to a fine of at least 350 euros or criminal sanctions. While the identified deficiencies at the Pforzheim supermarket have since been addressed and some products destroyed, the business remains open.
