Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant completes key construction phase
Construction at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant has reached a new milestone with the completion of concrete pouring for a slab in the machine hall of the fourth power unit. Located 18 meters above ground level, this slab will serve as the floor for the machine hall, providing a rigid horizontal support designed to withstand high dynamic loads from main equipment, including turbines, shaft rotating devices, and generators.
The operation involved 120 highly qualified personnel working in two shifts. The process included the installation of complex reinforcement cages made from 308 tons of high-strength steel, the assembly of 69 tons of embedded elements and anchor groups, and the pouring of 1,801 m³ of concrete. Following this stage, experts have begun preparations for the next phase: the foundation of the turbine unit.
Sergei Butckikh, General Manager of Akkuyu Nuclear A.Ş., described the project as a significant undertaking in Russia-Turkey history, noting that work continues across all four power units to meet high reliability and load-bearing standards.
