Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant opens second fire station

A second independent fire station has been commissioned at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant site in Mersin, Turkey. The facility, being constructed by the Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom, covers approximately 600 square meters and will be staffed by two fire crews operating 24/7.

The station includes a garage for fire vehicles, training classrooms, storage and drying areas for equipment, and physical training facilities for personnel. Plans are also in place to add a four-story training tower to facilitate high-altitude emergency response drills. To ensure rapid response, the site features an external water supply system capable of filling a fire tanker in five minutes, and the units are positioned to reach any facility within the site in a maximum of 10 minutes.

Currently, the Fire Safety Unit at Akkuyu Nükleer A.Ş. consists of 141 personnel and a fleet of five fire vehicles. The project aims to eventually operate a total of three stations, including a fully equipped central fire station, to bolster the plant's overall fire protection infrastructure.
