Akola bank cleaner arrested for stealing 1 crore rupees worth of gold
A bank cleaner has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold jewelry worth approximately 1.07 crore rupees from a Central Bank of India branch in Akola, Maharashtra. The stolen items consist of 715.044 grams of gold ornaments.
According to the City Kotwali Police, the suspect, 29-year-old Vaibhav Dhanraj Kolhe, allegedly gained access to the bank locker by using a duplicate key. Investigations suggest that instead of selling the jewelry directly, the accused reportedly mortgaged the gold at various finance companies and deposited the proceeds into his bank account.
The theft was discovered following irregularities in demand loan transactions between August 28 and August 29. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding the internal security protocols and locker safety measures at the MG Road branch. Police are currently investigating whether any other bank employees or external parties assisted in the crime.
