Čakovec's Porcijunkovo Festival 2026 Showcases Waste Reduction and Best‑Exhibitor Awards

The 2026 Porcijunkovo festival in Čakovec, the largest event in Međimurje, introduced selective waste collection for the first time. Over five days, 75 mixed‑waste bins, 20 paper bins and 22 plastic bins collected 7.72 tonnes of mixed waste, 0.9 tonne of paper and cardboard, and 0.78 tonne of plastic, a reduction of more than two tonnes compared with the previous year. Thirty GKP Čakom workers, six collection vehicles and a mobile cleaning unit handled the cleanup, and recyclable material was later sent for proper processing.

At the closing ceremony, the city awarded "Best on Porcijunkovo" recognitions in seven categories. Highlights included the "Negdašnje priče" award to Košaraštvo Pogorelec from Kotoriba, the "Maštoviti kutak" award to OPG Samita of Donja Dubrava, and a health‑focused award to the Croatian Celiac Association. Mayor Ljerka Cividini praised exhibitors, artisans and visitors for their contribution to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.
