Đakovo and Sremska Kamenica propose new street names
Local authorities in Đakovo, Croatia, have opened a public consultation regarding proposals for naming 12 streets or parts of existing streets. The proposed names include historical figures, military units, and local flora and fauna. Notable suggestions include Stjepan Kolba, a gravedigger who recorded the identities of Jewish victims at the local camp during World War II, and Stjepan Romić, recognized for preserving the Croatian sheepdog breed. Other proposals include names honoring the 3rd Guards Brigade Kune and connections to the town of Vrlica.
In Sremska Kamenica, Serbia, a local initiative has proposed naming a street after Siniša Dobrić, a child killed during Operation Storm in 1995. The proposal, supported by the local community council and urban planning authorities, seeks to memorialize the boy in the neighborhood where his parents reside. The decision now awaits input from various national minority councils and the Novi Sad City Assembly.
