Akron and Butler play to scoreless draw in BIG EAST opener
The No. 6 ranked Akron men's soccer team played to a 0-0 scoreless draw against Butler University to open BIG EAST conference play at FirstEnergy Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
Despite the lack of goals, Akron dominated offensive statistics, outshooting Butler 22-4 and earning 10 corner kicks compared to Butler's single attempt. Akron's Tyler Morck led the Zips with five shots, including three on target. Butler goalkeeper Brooks Boersma recorded eight saves to maintain the shutout, including critical stops in the first half to deny Akron's momentum.
Butler head coach Ian Sarachan expressed pride in his team's defensive effort against one of the top-ranked programs in the country. Akron head coach Jared Embick noted that while the team created dangerous plays, they struggled to win individual duels and maintain pressure in key moments.
