Aksaray driver arrested after passing out at fuel station

In Aksaray, Turkey, a 39-year-old driver identified as Engin G. fell unconscious at the wheel while refueling his pickup truck at a station on the Aksaray-Ankara highway. After requesting 4,000 Turkish Lira worth of fuel, the driver passed out due to extreme intoxication.

Emergency responders and local security officers worked to wake the driver, who was eventually transported to the Aksaray Training and Research Hospital Emergency Service via ambulance. During the incident, a fuel station employee attempted to collect the 4,000 Lira payment by bringing a POS terminal to the ambulance door.

Testing by the Regional Traffic Inspection Branch revealed the driver had an alcohol level of 2.33 promille, which is approximately 11 times the legal limit. As this was his second offense for driving under the influence, authorities confiscated his driver's license for two years and issued a 250,000 Lira fine. The Aksaray Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated legal proceedings against him.
