Turkey police levy large fines in traffic‑violation crackdowns

Police operations across Turkey resulted in hefty administrative penalties for a range of traffic offences. In Bursa’s İnegöl district, a driver who fled a police stop and was found to be over the legal alcohol limit was fined a total of 490 000 TL and had his vehicle banned from traffic for 60 days. Nationwide traffic and public‑order sweeps identified 1 808 drivers for violations, removed 147 vehicles from the road and led to the detention of 46 undocumented occupants. A separate drone‑assisted inspection in five Istanbul districts targeted motorcyclists riding on pedestrian pathways, issuing fines worth 407 818 TL and banning four motorcycles. Additional safety messages were issued, such as Yozgat’s governor urging motorists to avoid using mobile phones while driving, and law‑enforcement actions were taken after three people danced on a moving vehicle on the İzmir‑Çeşme highway. The combined efforts underscore a broad police push to enforce traffic laws and improve road safety nationwide.
