AKTOR Group completes €10.3M flood protection project in Thriasio Plain
AKTOR Group has completed and delivered a major anti-flood infrastructure project designed to protect the Thriasio Plain in Western Attica from extreme flooding events. The project, which involved the management of the Agios Georgios (Giannoulas) torrent, was handed over to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport with a budget of €10.3 million.
The Agios Georgios torrent is the second most significant torrent in the Thriasio Plain, spanning 7.5 km with a catchment area of approximately 110 km². The works include improving water discharge capacity, stabilizing the torrent bed, and protecting neighboring infrastructure. Technical implementations featured reinforced concrete structures, gabions, weirs, and retaining walls to prevent erosion and undermining. The project also addressed critical intersections with roads, bridges, and public utility networks to ensure safe passage.
