Akura Beer begins brewing with Iwate-grown hops

Akura Beer in Akita City has begun brewing a new beer using ‘IBUKI’ hops harvested in Tono City, Iwate Prefecture. This initiative is part of the ‘Tohoku Fresh Hop Project,’ a collaborative effort involving 18 breweries across the Tohoku region. The resulting beers are scheduled for release in November.

Separately, Nagahama Roman Beer in Shiga Prefecture has launched a project to revive Wakasa Beer, which was Fukui Prefecture’s first local craft beer. Following the bankruptcy of its previous manufacturer in August 2025, the brand is being carried forward through a business succession approved by a bankruptcy trustee. The first product in this revival series, ‘NAGAHAMA AMBER ALE,’ is a limited release scheduled for October 20, 2026.
