Akureyri hosts 11th Súlur Vertical mountain race

The Súlur Vertical mountain race took place in Akureyri on Saturday, August 1, marking its 11th edition. Organisers expected a turnout similar to the previous year’s 600 participants, with preparations involving 6‑8 volunteers over several months and about 90 people on race day handling water stations, rescue teams, traffic control and timing.

Four routes were offered: Fálkinn (19 km), Súlur (29 km), Tröllið (43 km) starting in Kjarnaskógi, and the 100 km Gyðjan beginning at Goðafoss. All runners converged in Akureyri’s town centre after completing their courses.
