Akwa Ibom Governor announces scholarships and seeks power stability
Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has announced several initiatives aimed at education and infrastructure development. To mark the state’s 39th anniversary, Governor Eno presented N190 million in scholarships to two top students. This includes N160 million for Dr. Joseph Akpan to pursue postgraduate studies in surgical and intervention science at McGill University in Canada, and N30 million for Uwakmfon Umana Joseph to study software engineering at Nile University in Abuja.
In a separate effort to bolster the state's economy, Governor Eno met with the management of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc (PHED) to advocate for more reliable power supply. He emphasized that steady electricity is essential to the success of his administration's ARISE Agenda and the state's industrial potential. The Governor urged PHED to align its operations with the state's electricity policy and comply with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission's order to transfer regulatory oversight of the intrastate electricity market to the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
