Akwa Ibom Governor denies EFCC allegations and reports welfare updates
Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has denied allegations made by Senator John Akpanudoedehe that he reported his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The state government characterized the claims as unsubstantiated and warned against statements that could threaten regional peace.
Separately, the Akwa Ibom State Head of Civil Service, Elsie Peters, announced that the administration has paid over N90 billion toward inherited gratuity liabilities totaling N111 billion. Peters noted that the government is committed to liquidating the remaining balance.
Other welfare measures reported include the implementation of an N80,000 minimum wage effective November 1, 2024, the continuation of the 13th-month salary known as ‘Eno-Mber,’ and the recruitment of approximately 7,069 personnel, including teachers and health workers.
