Akwa Ibom Governor offers jobs to three Commonwealth Games medalists

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has announced immediate civil service employment for three Commonwealth Games medalists from the state. The athletes, who competed in Glasgow, Scotland, will be posted to the state’s Ministry of Sports Development.

The recipients include Edidiong Umofia, a gold medalist in weightlifting; Ruth Nyong, a silver medalist in weightlifting; and Enku Ekuta, a bronze medalist in judo. The governor stated that the employment is intended to reward their achievements and motivate them to pursue further success in sports.

Formal recognition and rewards for the trio are scheduled to take place on September 22 during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival. The governor emphasized that his administration views sports as a multi-billion-dollar industry and a vital tool for youth empowerment and talent discovery.
