Akwa Ibom invests N4bn in land compensation and urban development
The Akwa Ibom State Government has reported spending over N4 billion on land acquisition compensation over the past year. These funds were used to resolve long-standing issues for projects including Ibom Medical City, the Akwa Ibom Geographic Information System (AKWAGIS) headquarters, the Ibom Broadcasting Corporation complex, and various judicial quarters.
To modernize administration, the state has rolled out a digitized AKWAGIS platform for title verification and revenue collection. Additionally, a Land Conflict Resolution Desk has facilitated the out-of-court settlement of over 100 pending cases. Urban planning reviews are also underway in Uyo, Eket, Oron, and Ikot Ekpene to enforce building regulations.
In terms of housing and infrastructure, the state has earmarked 150 hectares of land for the development of 1,048 housing units. Ongoing projects include the Aviation Village, which is 98% complete, and various residential quarters for medical, executive, and legislative officials. Furthermore, the state is implementing solar-powered water schemes across all 369 electoral wards to ensure access to clean water.
