Akwa Ibom State boxing ring debuts at sports festival

An Olympic-standard boxing ring acquired by the Akwa Ibom State Government made its competitive debut on Wednesday, September 23, during the 2026 Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival. The first bout held in the new ring saw Sylvester of Ibiono Ibom defeat Peter of Eket.

The ring was officially unveiled on April 10 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo by the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Sports. It was procured as part of a broader initiative to upgrade sporting equipment and infrastructure, aimed at improving athlete training and increasing the state's capacity to host major competitions.
