Egyptian Premier League: Al Ahly and Zamalek fight for top spot

The Egyptian Premier League standings have shifted following key results in the fifth round of competition. Al Ahly secured a 2-0 victory against Abu Qir Fertilizers with goals from Ahmed Mostafa ‘Zizo’ and Hussein El Shahat, temporarily placing them at the top of the table with 13 points.

Zamalek SC also reached 13 points, moving to the top of the standings on goal difference after a narrow 1-0 win against Ghazl El Mahalla. The decisive goal was scored by Ahmed Sherif via a penalty in the 86th minute. Following the match, Ghazl El Mahalla manager Khaled Galal stated that the final score did not reflect his team's performance, noting they missed several opportunities despite controlling parts of the game.

In other matches, Modern Sport climbed into the top four after defeating Petrol Asyut 2-0, while Al Ittihad Alexandria defeated Al Masry 2-0. Al Ahly's football director, Wael Gomaa, commented on the team's progress, stating they have achieved their initial goals for the season despite facing difficult circumstances and pressure.
