Al-Ahram Foundation to host book signing for Gandhi and Arab-Muslim issues

The Al-Ahram Foundation will host a seminar and book signing ceremony for the first Cairo edition of “Gandhi and the Issues of Arabs and Muslims” by Bahraini thinker Abdulnabi al-Shala on Sunday, October 25. The event will take place at the Heikal Hall in Cairo's Al-Ahram building.

Published by the Al-Ahram Translation and Publishing Center, the book is described as the first Arabic work to examine Mahatma Gandhi’s engagement with Arab and Islamic causes. The text explores Gandhi’s stances against injustice and violence, his support for the rights of Indian Muslims in South Africa and India, and the historical relationship between Hindus and Muslims that led to the creation of Pakistan.

The book also provides a comparison between Gandhi and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, noting their shared qualities and their eventual divergence regarding the partition. The event is organized in cooperation with the Indian Embassy in Cairo, the Egyptian-Indian Friendship Association, and the “In the Presence of Creativity” salon.
