Al-Aqsa Mosque: Hundreds of settlers enter compound during Rosh Hashanah
During the second day of the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, approximately 593 Israeli settlers entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem. According to the Jerusalem Governorate, the groups entered through the Dung Gate (Bab al-Maghariba) in two separate sessions during the morning and afternoon, conducted under the protection of Israeli security forces.
Simultaneously, Palestinian worshippers faced significant access restrictions. Israeli authorities limited entry to the Hutta and Chain gates and implemented unspecified age restrictions. These measures forced many worshippers to pray outside the mosque gates. The Jerusalem Governorate noted that it has documented roughly 850 orders preventing Palestinian access to the site since the beginning of the year.
The influx of settlers coincides with calls from Temple Mount groups for increased religious activity at the site during the Jewish New Year period. The Al-Aqsa compound remains under the administration of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf, as established by the 1994 peace treaty between Israel and Jordan.
