Al-Aqsa Mosque status threatened by systematic violations

The Jerusalem Governorate and the Palestinian Presidency have issued urgent warnings regarding increasing attempts to alter the historical, religious, and legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Authorities report that systematic policies are being implemented to create a new de facto situation at the site. These actions include frequent raids, the performance of religious rituals in the courtyards, restrictions on Muslim access for worship, and underground excavation works. Officials emphasize that the entire 144-dunam area belongs to Muslims and that any attempt to impose temporal or spatial divisions is a violation of international law.

The warnings come on the 57th anniversary of the 1969 arson attack on the mosque. Palestinian officials stated that these provocations target the broader identity of Jerusalem and threaten both Islamic and Christian holy sites, calling for increased international and Arab-Islamic coordination to protect the sanctity of the region.
