Al Gore says Trump's influence wanes, predicts Democratic win and backs Bachelet for UN chief

Former U.S. vice‑president and Nobel laureate Al Gore, speaking during a climate‑leadership event in Santiago, said the former president’s influence is “decreasing rapidly” and forecast that the Democratic Party will regain control of the U.S. Congress in the upcoming mid‑term elections. He added that Trump’s opposition to climate action has emboldened anti‑environmental politicians in Latin America.

Gore also praised former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, calling her a “fantastic” candidate for United Nations secretary‑general and expressing hope that the next SG will continue the approach of António Guterres. The remarks were made on a visit to Chile that included meetings with local activists and leaders.
