Al Gore sees potential climate tipping point by 2026
Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore expressed cautious optimism regarding the global climate crisis during New York Climate Week. He suggested that 2026 could serve as a historical “positive tipping point,” noting that the world may be reaching a peak in the use of coal, oil, and gas as solar and other renewable energy sources gain momentum.
Gore characterized the current era as a race between the risks of climate change and the rapid adoption of clean, affordable energy alternatives. While he remains “temperamentally optimistic,” he warned that the dangers are accelerating, citing increasingly frequent and severe extreme weather events, such as heat waves and the deadly glacier collapse and flooding in Nepal that resulted in 1,300 deaths.
