Al Jardine discusses Mike Love's health and the future of The Beach Boys

Co-founding Beach Boys member Al Jardine has commented on the health of fellow founding member Mike Love, noting that Love’s recent physical decline during performances has been “shocking.” Love, who is currently the only classic member touring under the group’s name, has recently appeared visibly frail on stage, including during a performance at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

Jardine expressed concern regarding Love’s continued public appearances, suggesting that while Love is a professional who wants to be on stage, it may no longer be appropriate for him to perform. Despite a long-standing personal and legal rift between the two musicians regarding the band's name, Jardine suggested that the Beach Boys brand could potentially continue in some capacity if a way is found to integrate his own group, the Pet Sounds Band, with the legacy of the name.

Separate discussions regarding Love have highlighted his complex role in the band's history, specifically his contributions as a vocalist and his preference for the group’s early, radio-friendly sound compared to the more experimental direction taken during the Pet Sounds era.
