Al Jardine performs rare Beach Boys song in Ohio
Beach Boys co-founder Al Jardine performed the rare song ‘Back Home’ during a concert at the Robins Theater in Warren, Ohio, on August 15. This marked the first time Jardine has performed the track during a solo show.
The song, originally written by Brian Wilson and Bob Norberg in 1963, has not been performed live by the Beach Boys since October 1978. Jardine noted to the audience that he had conducted a brief rehearsal for the piece, which he had not played in nearly 50 years, to mark his return to his home state of Ohio.
While various versions of ‘Back Home’ were recorded during the band’s history, including sessions for ‘Surfer Girl’ and ‘Sunflower’, the version released on the 1976 album ‘15 Big Ones’ featured Brian Wilson on lead vocals.
