Çalı Köy Filmleri Festivali hosts 10th anniversary and cinema symposium

The 10th Çalı Köy Filmleri Festivali (Çalı Village Film Festival) recently opened in the Nilüfer district of Bursa, Turkey. As part of the event, the 2nd National Interdisciplinary Cinema Symposium was held at the Pancar Deposu under the theme ‘Film Studies from Local to Global’.

The symposium brought together academics, cinema enthusiasts, and local officials, including Nilüfer Deputy Mayors Okan Şahin and Emre Karagöz, as well as ÇEKÜDER President Sadık Emre Sakin. During the opening, Okan Şahin noted that the festival has evolved over the last decade into a platform for generating new ideas and emphasized the importance of merging cultural and artistic studies with academic production to build cultural memory.

Participants discussed the social significance of cinema, with academics highlighting its role in making cultural identities and daily life visible. The papers presented during the symposium are scheduled to be compiled into a booklet.
