Al Sur está la poesía festival begins in Granma
The 36th edition of the ‘Al Sur está la poesía’ festival has commenced in the coastal municipality of Pilón, Granma. Running from September 17 to September 20, the literary event aims to promote reading habits and showcase the works of various poets and writers in eastern Cuba.
This year’s edition includes visits to remote settlements and vulnerable communities, such as Calabaza and El Bon, to foster cultural exchange. The program features 14 invited poets from Granma and includes activities such as the literary colloquium ‘Fidel y los escritores de Granma’ and the presentation of the book ‘Fidel y la industria editorial cubana: una Revolución desde las letras.’
Founded in 1989, the festival is part of the ‘Red Nuestra América de Festivales Internacionales de Poesía de América Latina y el Caribe’ and the World Poetry Movement. The event serves to stimulate poetic creation and preserve the cultural traditions of the southeastern region of the country.
