Al-Wadi'ah faces gas crisis after official shipment disappears

A severe domestic gas shortage has triggered public unrest in the Al-Wadi'ah district of Abyan Governorate, Yemen. The crisis follows the mysterious disappearance of a large gas tanker officially designated for the district.

According to documents from the Yemen Gas Company dated July 12, 2026, tanker number 16/1934, carrying a load of 26.54 tons, was officially assigned to Al-Wadi'ah as part of batch number 1409581. Despite this official record, residents report that the shipment never arrived at local stations.

The disappearance has fueled a black market where gas cylinder prices have surged to over 25,000 Yemeni riyals, forcing many families to rely on wood and charcoal for cooking. Local residents have called for an urgent investigation by authorities in Abyan and the Yemen Gas Company to track the tanker's route and hold those responsible for the diversion accountable.
