Munetaka Murakami hits 32nd home run as White Sox tie for AL Central lead
The Chicago White Sox moved into a tie for first place in the American League Central following a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers. The win, fueled by a first-inning three-run home run from Munetaka Murakami, allowed the White Sox to rebound from a previous loss and join the Cleveland Guardians with a 78-75 record.
Murakami, who had been struggling through a significant slump in September, hit his 32nd home run of the season off Tigers pitcher Framber Valdez. The blast, a 423-foot shot to center field, marked a potential turning point for the rookie, who also recorded his first triple since arriving in the United States.
White Sox starter Erick Fedde provided quality run prevention, allowing one run over 4 2/3 innings, while the bullpen, including Bryan Hudson and Grant Taylor, secured the win. The Tigers, meanwhile, are managing roster challenges, including the season-ending injury of reliever Kyle Finnegan due to groin inflammation.
Despite the win, the White Sox face a crowded AL Wild Card race and are attempting to become the first team in MLB history to reach the postseason after losing 100 or more games in each of the previous two seasons.
