Alabama 5-year-old battling brain cancer honored with birthday parade

Sawyer Wilson, a 5‑year‑old from Madison County, Alabama, is undergoing treatment for group 3 medulloblastoma at Children’s of Alabama. Because hospital restrictions prevented a traditional celebration, his parents, Rayne and Justin Wilson, organized a community parade on a Saturday after promoting the idea on social media. Police officers, firefighters, local businesses and residents joined the procession, presenting gifts and congratulations.

The family said the event raised awareness and provided emotional relief. Restaurants held spirit nights to help cover medical expenses, and Sawyer is scheduled to throw the first pitch at a Rocket City Trash Pandas baseball game the following Sunday.
