Alabama announces millions in grants for safety and recreation
Governor Kay Ivey has announced the distribution of several grants across Alabama to support community improvements and public safety.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) has awarded nearly $5.8 million toward statewide traffic safety initiatives. These funds aim to promote education, enforcement, and technology. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency received approximately $1.9 million to fund selective traffic enforcement, a Drug Recognition Expert Program for officer training, and a DUI enforcement program targeting collision hot spots.
Additionally, the Alabama Department of Public Health was awarded roughly $1.1 million. This funding covers software maintenance for emergency medical services reporting, child passenger safety training, and distracted driving education.
Separate from safety initiatives, more than $6.1 million in grants are being allocated to various Alabama cities to enhance outdoor recreational facilities.
