Alabama authorities investigate student murder and drowning deaths
Montgomery police have arrested 22-year-old Jalil Bivens of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in connection with the death of 20-year-old Alabama State University student Ava Walters. Walters was found unresponsive at an off-campus university facility on the 1600 block of Interstate Park Drive on August 23. While the university initially announced the death without specifying the cause, authorities have since classified the incident as a homicide. Bivens has been charged with murder, though police have not yet released a motive or specific details regarding the cause of death.
In a separate incident in Wetumpka, Alabama, authorities recovered the body of 18-year-old Qadir Lyle from Corn Creek Park. Lyle, a student at Faulkner University in Montgomery, went underwater while swimming. The recovery effort involved multiple agencies following the disappearance of the Decatur resident.
