Alabama authorizes construction of $3.2B Mobile River Bridge

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has authorized the commencement of construction for the Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project. Costing more than $3.2 billion, the initiative is described as the largest transportation infrastructure project in Alabama's history.

The project aims to improve I-10 capacity between Mobile and Baldwin counties. It includes the construction of a new six-lane cable-stayed bridge and the reconfiguration of the existing Bayway to provide six lanes of capacity across Mobile Bay. Officials expect the improvements to enhance traffic flow and safety.

The Alabama Department of Transportation issued a notice to proceed to the Kiewit Massman Traylor design-build team following the completion of bond sales and federal financing in September. U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy attended the groundbreaking ceremony alongside state leaders.
