Alabama candidates clash over ethics and campaign donations

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Doug Jones has challenged Republican Senator and candidate Tommy Tuberville to divest from investments linked to artificial intelligence and data centers. Jones is also calling for stronger state ethics laws in Alabama.

Campaign finance reports indicate that Tuberville has received significant funding from the gambling industry. Specifically, VGW Luckyland Inc., a Colorado-based company that owns sweepstakes casino brands such as Chumba, Global Poker, and Luckyland, has contributed to his campaign. While Alabama does not currently regulate online gambling, sweepstakes casinos operate in the state using a virtual currency model. The industry faces increasing legal scrutiny, with dozens of lawsuits filed in Alabama regarding the legality of these platforms.
