Alabama cities receive $6.1 million for outdoor recreation

Governor Kay Ivey has announced more than $6.1 million in grants to various Alabama cities to enhance outdoor recreational facilities. The funding is distributed through seven different grants aimed at improving community health and physical exercise opportunities.

As part of these awards, Trussville will receive a $1 million federal grant via the Land and Water Conservation Fund to upgrade the playground at Masonic Park. The project will include new playground equipment, a picnic shelter with sidewalk connections, picnic tables, fencing, and a dedicated exercise area for senior citizens. The city plans to match the federal award with $1 million in local funds. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs administers the program.
