Alabama Crimson Tide playoff odds plunge after loss to Tennessee

The Alabama Crimson Tide fell to a 5-2 overall record and 3-2 in SEC play following a 26-10 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers at Neyland Stadium.

Following the defeat, ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) significantly adjusted the team’s postseason outlook. While Alabama dropped one spot to No. 6 in national rankings, its probability of reaching the College Football Playoff plummeted from 82.4% to 49.4%, a decline of 33 percentage points.

Reflecting on the team's recent struggles, including a prior loss to Georgia, Nick Saban emphasized the importance of how an organization responds to negative consequences. He noted that successful championship teams often respond to losses by focusing on technical improvements and maintaining morale to ensure players remain purposeful for the remainder of the season.
