Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources opens 2027 photo contest

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) is accepting entries for the 2027 Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest. The submission deadline is October 30, 2026.

The contest is open to both residents and visitors, provided the photographs were taken in Alabama within the last two years. Amateur photographers not employed by ADCNR may submit up to 10 photos across various categories, including Alabama State Parks, Birds, Wildlife, and Scenic Shoots and Roots.

For the 2027 contest, the focus is on traditional photography techniques and handheld cameras. In nine of the ten categories, winning entries cannot be captured via cellphone, smartphone, game camera, or drone. The Young Photographers category (ages 17 and under) is the sole exception where smartphone and tablet photography is permitted. Winning images will be displayed online and featured in a traveling exhibit throughout the state in 2027.
