Alabama Department of Environmental Management awards $2.5M in recycling grants

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) has announced nearly $2.5 million in recycling grants to be distributed across the state for fiscal year 2027. The funding, totaling $2,497,602, is sourced from the Alabama Recycling Fund, which was established under the Solid Wastes and Recyclable Materials Management Act of 2008.

The grants will be awarded to 20 recipients, including municipalities, county governments, regional solid waste authorities, and nonprofit organizations. These funds are intended to help develop, implement, or expand recycling programs, covering costs for infrastructure, equipment, storage facilities, and recycling containers.

Notable recipients include the Solid Waste Disposal Authority of Baldwin County, which received the largest award of $350,580, and the West Alabama Recycling Partnership with $331,658. Other significant awards were granted to Northport ($243,911), Auburn ($214,957), and Birmingham ($198,000). The Alabama Recycling Coalition also received $102,500 to support its waste reduction and recycling promotion efforts.
