Alabama faces flash flooding and potential tropical development
Severe weather and flooding threats are impacting several regions in Alabama. A Flood Watch is in effect for Mobile and Baldwin counties, while Geneva and Houston counties face watches until Monday morning. In Barbour, Bullock, and Pike counties, a Flash Flood Warning was issued following heavy rainfall of 3 to 5 inches, with additional amounts of 2 to 4 inches possible. These conditions threaten small creeks, urban areas, highways, and low-lying locations including Troy and Union Springs.
Meteorologists are also monitoring a broad area of low pressure in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, which has a 30% chance of tropical development. This system could move northward later this week, potentially bringing widespread rain to the Gulf Coast by Friday or Saturday.
Additionally, a significant radar outage has been reported. For over 24 hours, no radar data has reached the public from New Orleans to Mobile to Tallahassee, affecting sites including Fort Rucker and Eglin AFB. There is currently no estimate for when radar services will be restored.
